The Maiden's Tune (Đorđe Kadijević, 1973)
easily my favorite of the three films on this disc of All the Haunts Be Ours, possibly just because i’m a sucker for a pretty woman in a very low-cut gown (even though imo her costuming leaned more “quinceañera” than “dissolute aristocrat”), but i think it still would have been good without that. cleavage aside, it lacked the bumbling silliness of Leptirica’s farmers, and was less cryptic and obtuse than Ward (but definitely still cryptic and obtuse!), while keeping the latter’s excellent cinematography and music.
i had a number of ideas about what sort of evil creature Sibilia might be, and what the nature of the titular tune was, which were all incredibly off the mark, and no match for how weird the actual goings-on of this castle were.
highly recommended to all supporters of women’s wrongs!
